Russian Foreign Ministry plays April Fools' Day joke, offering election hacking.
The award for April Fool's Day prank of the year has to go to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who posted a hilarious April Fool's prank on their facebook page mocking the anti-Russia hysteria pushed by much of the biased Western mainstream media.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has developed a pilot audio recording of the answering machine for Russian diplomatic missions abroad."
This is the transcript of the answering machine message:
"You have reached the Russian embassy. Your call is very important to us.
To arrange a call from a Russian diplomat to your political opponents, press 1.
To use the services of Russian hackers, press 2.
To request election interference press 3 and wait until the next election campaign."
They add:
"Please note that all calls are recorded for quality improvement and training purposes."
The Associated Press confirmed with a duty officer from the Russian Foreign Ministry that this was an official joke. My initial reaction to hearing this was, "Seriously? They had to check?"
However, given the increasing trend by many mainstream news organizations to push false narratives and unsubstantiated claims while protecting themselves by using vague ambiguous phrasing such as 'unnamed sources', 'possibly believed to', and 'may have', I suppose it's good to see that at least the Associated Press still take journalism seriously and verify their stories.
